Marie Coury, a longtime resident of Mesa, Arizona, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, at the age of 86, with her beloved husband of 66 years, Tony Coury Jr. by her side.

Marie passed away on the same date she was first blessed with her favorite title of Mom, a tender coincidence that beautifully honors her lifelong devotion to her family.

Marie was born in Erwin, Tennessee, to Junior and Lola Banner. Her family relocated to Arizona in 1953, where she would later build her beautiful life. While attending Mesa High School, Marie met Tony. The two were married in 1960 and were quickly blessed with three children: Cindy Coury-Broadhurst, Stephanie Coury, and Tony Coury III. Seven years later, their family became complete with the arrival of their son, Michael Coury (Andrea).

Marie’s greatest joy was her expanding family. She was a deeply proud grandmother to 13 grandchildren: Justin Chrzanowski (Christy), Destinee Coury-Ferguson (Mathew), Briana Denning (Wesley), Kristopher Chrzanowski (Kim), Kyle Chrzanowski, Halen Coury, Taylor Coury, Colt Braylor, Shelby Coury, Rhett Broadhurst (Hannah), Campbell Coury, Charlton Coury, and Chaney Coury. Her 14 great-grandchildren were truly the icing on the cake of her life: Wyatt, Aiden, Easton, Walker, Whitley, Kash, Brixton, Stetson, Kennedy, Ashtyn, Everett, Eagan, Emery and Palmer.

A voracious learner with a passion for history, Marie was endlessly curious. Over the years, she eagerly enrolled in a wide variety of classes, mastering everything from math to woodworking and photography. She embraced new technology. With Michael’s guidance she enjoying learning about each device. She generously shared her time as a volunteer, working with the Miss Arizona Pageant in the 1970s and supporting Ballet Etudes.

Marie possessed a sharp, hilarious sense of humor and loved nothing more than playfully teasing the children in her life. She had an extraordinary, innate ability to connect with anyone—equally at ease chatting with a local grocery checker, music stars, the Nuns!, GM executives, or Presidents of the United States. Quick-witted and bright, she regularly challenged her kids and grandkids to watch Jeopardy! with her, and to no one’s surprise, she routinely knew all the right answers.

Tony and Marie shared a lifetime of incredible adventures, many trips awarded to them because of the success of the family business Tony Coury Buick and GMC. Together, they traveled the globe, crossed the United States on memorable motorhome trips, spent cherished summers in Pinetop, Arizona, and even flew on The Concorde twice.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Christine Kelsey, Rhonda Banner, and Robyn Banner; her brother, Melvin Banner; and her son-in-law, Jack Broadhurst, who claimed that he had the perfect mother-in-law!!

She is survived and forever missed by her devoted husband, Tony Coury Jr.; her four children, Cindy Coury-Broadhurst, Stephanie Coury, Tony Coury III, and Michael Coury (Andrea); her 13 grandchildren; her 14 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Elaine McBride and Angela McFarland.

The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out with kind words, prayers and support.

Celebration of Life arrangements were made at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery:
