George Hovden, 93 of Mesa, AZ passed away Tuesday March 8, 2011 in Mesa, AZ. Mr. Hovden, the retired co-owner and barber at Masonic Temple Barber Shop in Marshalltown, was born Decorah, IA. He was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church where he married Ruby Bray on December 30, 1945. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII in North Africa and Italy as a member of the 34th Infantry “Red Bull” Division. Survivors include his wife Ruby Hovden, son Jack (Mary) Hovden of Urbandale, IA. sister Lil Thomas, brothers Joel and Earle Hovden, nephew Ron Hovden, grandchildren Heidi Chatham of Ankeny, IA and Jodi Oliver of Savannah, MO, and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Mavis Aaseby, brothers Ralph “Red”, Alton, Maurice “Tex” and Charles. Services will be at 3:00 PM Saturday March 12, 2011 at Legacy Retirement Residence. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Living Faith Church of Mesa, 7460 E. Knowles Ave., Mesa, AZ 85209. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
