Wesley Perry Stevens died on November 9, 2011 at Claremore, Okla., where he was a resident at the Claremore Veterans’ Center. He was 87 years old and had Alzheimer’s Disease. Wesley was born November 5, 1924 in Shoshone, Idaho to Albert Stevens and Cecil May Lewis Stevens. He was the fifth of six boys. Wes came to Sanford, Colo. at the age of 17 months, after the death of his mother. Wesley was raised with his aunt and uncle, the James Peter and Lettie Jensen family. Lettie Jensen was the sister of Albert Stevens. Wes graduated from Sanford High School in 1942 after serving as senior class president. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and received his basic training in Farragat, Idaho. He served in the Navy briefly during WWII. Wesley married his childhood sweetheart, Alice Mae Crowther, who was the daughter of William Alma Crowther and Marcella Christensen Crowther, on April 1, 1945. They lived in Sanford, Denver, and Alamosa. Alice Mae preceded him in death on June 27, 1996, after 51 years of marriage. They lived in Redlands, Calif. for 34 years, and Mesa, Ariz. for 19 years. He married Elaine Crowther Nelson in 1997. They moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 2009 and Claremore, Okla. in 2010. Wes and Alice were the proud parents of five children: Dennis Wayne Stevens (deceased) of Saranac Lake, NY, David Lynn Stevens of Redwood City, Calif., Lorraine Stevens Ludden of Lake Forest, Calif., Kelly Duane Stevens of Albuquerque, NM, and Curtis Perry Stevens of West Jordan, Utah. Wes and Alice have 26 grandchildren, and over 100 descendants. Wes worked as a dairyman, truck driver and maintenance man at a truck terminal where he was respected for his thoroughness. He was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as a High Priest, Seventy, Home Teacher, Sunday School President, Assistant Ward Clerk, and Temple Worker. Wes was always loved and respected for his extreme honesty, integrity and generosity. He was always eager to show friendship and render service to everyone around him. He was famous for stopping to help a stranger as well as a friend. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Service and burial will be at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona on November 12, 2011, where he will rest beside his beloved wife, Alice Mae.
