Eleanor Marie Rafter Childs Obituary

September 10, 1928 – May 11, 2020

Eleanor Marie Rafter Childs was born in Fontanelle, Iowa on September 10, 1928, daughter of Harley C. and Eva (Speed) Rafter. She worked at Red and White grocery through high school.  Graduating in 1945, from Fontanelle High School.  She studied for one year at Iowa Teachers College and began teaching school at Grand River Center one year before marrying. She married Dean F. Childs September 11, 1947.

Dean and Eleanor farmed for ten years, and then moved to Wyoming in 1957.   In 1960, they moved yet again after buying a motel in Flagstaff, Arizona.  In 1964, they moved to Mesa, Arizona, where Eleanor worked for Mesa Drug until 1968. That same year, Tri City Mall opened, where Eleanor worked at Walgreens, she stayed with Walgreens for 30 years.

Eleanor is survived by her two sons, Stephen and Terry, 5 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her Mother, Father, Brother Lloyd, sisters: Mildred, Esther and husband, Dean.

Eleanor Marie Rafter Childs Obituary

Eleanor Marie Rafter Childs was born in Fontanelle, Iowa on September 10, 1928, daughter of Harley C. and Eva (Speed) Rafter.
