Mario Sciascia, 90, of Chandler, Arizona, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 19, 2019, at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center in Gilbert, Arizona.

A native of Phillipsburg, Mario was born on February 20, 1928, and graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1946.  He enlisted in the United States Army following graduation, serving in Japan and reaching the rank of Sergeant.

Following his military service, Mario began a lifelong career with the Ingersoll-Rand Company, where he worked until his retirement in 1990 with the Rock Drill Division in Roanoke, Virginia.  Mario also moonlighted as a barber for much of his life, a profession he thoroughly enjoyed.

Among many hobbies, Mario particularly enjoyed bowling, fishing, gardening, woodworking, cooking, and spending time with his family and friends.

Mario is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marie (nee Lucas); son, Thomas, of Mesa, Arizona; daughter, Elaine, of Chandler; grandson, Matthew, of Chandler; two great-granddaughters, Natalie and Lillian; sister, Josephine; sister, Rose; brother, Anthony (Brenda); brother, Al (Angie); brother, Peter; and many extended family members and friends.

Mario was predeceased by his sisters, Mary and Patricia. Services and interment were held on Monday, January 28, at Mountain View Funeral Home & Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation in Mario’s memory be made to the American Cancer Society.
