Jake Zoet was born September 3, 1913 to Marinus and Grace (Dykhuizen) Zoet in Elburg, Netherlands. When he was 2 1/2 years old his family moved to the United States and he lived in Sioux Center, Iowa until he was 8 years old. The family then moved to Brooten, Minnesota where he attended country school. In 1934, Jake worked in the Sheldon, Iowa area and met the love of his life Edna Bloemendaal who he wed on October 4, 1938 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They were married for 73 years and 3 months when Edna went to be with the Lord on January 16, 2012. Jake and Edna bought their first business, a gas station, in Matlock in 1938. After that Jake was very proud to have served during World War II in the US Navy from 1943-1945. Jake was a lifetime member of the VFW post 7373 in Sibley, Iowa. When returning to Sheldon, Jake was in the cattle business for 33 years owning Sheldon Livestock Company and Jake Zoet Livestock. In 1987, Jake and Edna moved to Mesa, AZ, and lived in Sunland Village East for 22 years. They were very active in the Sunland Village Chapel, and Jake enjoyed swimming at the pool. Jake passed away on January 23, 2013 at Banner Gardens Hospice Inpatient Unit, surrounded by family and friends. He was 99 years 4 1/2 months old. Jake enjoyed spending time with his family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends. He especially enjoyed visiting with his friends on the front patio. Jake is preceded in death by his wife Edna, parents, three brothers; Gerrit, Bert, and Jerry. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Roxianne and Danny Green, grandchildren; Michelle and Kevin Bedinghaus, Monica and Jim Sawitzke, Elizabeth and Matthew Vander Linden, seven great grandchildren; Samantha, Stephanie, Jake, Lindsey, Kevin, Mary and William, two sisters; Marie Arends and Grace Luffel. Funeral services are Monday, January 28, 2013, at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel in Mesa, Arizona, at 10:00am.
