LaVerne Huber Marcum passed away peacefully in her home on April 7, 2021.  She was born LaVerne May Huber on April 30, 1933 in Louisville, Kentucky to her parents Ruby J. Mann and Oscar Huber.  She was the second of five children.  She lived in Louisville throughout her school years. She graduated from Eastern High School in 1951. While in High School she participated in many sports, including tennis, softball and field hockey.  She was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol.

Eventually she moved to Corbin Kentucky where she married her first husband Knute Greene Maloney.  They had two children together.  Carl Ray and Margaret Ann (now Daisy Morris).   While in Kentucky she had various jobs from light accounting to managing a diner.  In 1958 her husband passed away.

Later, she met Marion Howard Marcum at a horse stable in London Kentucky and remarried.  1965 they moved to Phoenix, Arizona.  While in Phoenix, they had their first child together, Vanessa.  They moved to Mesa where they had 4 more children, Larry, Michael, John and Michelle. After being a stay at home mom for many years, LaVerne went to nursing school and became an LPN in 1987. She was able to use her knowledge and talents in that field to care for Howard who had fallen ill with respiratory disease.  Howard passed away in 1995.   She worked for Mesa Christian Care Center and Springdale West nursing homes until 2004 when she retired.

In retirement she enjoyed many hobbies such as reading, volunteering at her church, square dancing and playing cards.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ruby and Oscar, her brothers Oscar “Junie” and George and her sister Frances.  Her first and second husbands, Knute and Howard.

She is survived by her brother James McMillan Sr, (spouse, Linda), Her children Carl Maloney (spouse, Melody) Daisy Morris, Vanessa Krausnick, (spouse, Lee), Larry Marcum, Michael Marcum, John Marcum and Michelle Marcum. 11 Grand Children and 13 Great Grand Children

 

Her service will be held on April 16th, 2021 at 3:00pm at Mountain View Mortuary, 7900 E Main St., Mesa, AZ 85207

 

Reception shall follow at 1660 E. Inverness Avenue, Mesa, Arizona 85204
