Matina Katsanakis, age 90 passed away peacefully May 23rd, 2023. She was born in Sparta, Greece on September 25th 1932. She was married for 61 years to Alex Katsanakis, who preceded her passing on March 14th 2023. Matina was a loving and caring wife and mother to her three children George, Katerina, and Achilles. Matina was a dedicated mother who loved her family and showed it through her cooking, serving, and supporting her family every day. She loved unconditionally without ever thinking of her needs and always asking, “What can I do to help?” Mom always had a smile, loved to laugh, and greeted everyone with, “Hello Darling!”

She loved to sing and tell stories of her childhood in Greece. Our mom was a mother to everyone who came into our family. She helped raise grandkids and treated them as her own. She loved to joke, watch Hallmark, the cooking channel, and John Wick. She kept her home immaculate yet warm and inviting. She loved spending time in her yard with her garden and trees. Holidays were spent at her home surrounded by family and friends. She never asked for anything for herself but always gave freely and openly.

When we individually asked mom, “Who’s #1?” she would always reply to each of us, “You!”. Her love of her family came first and foremost. As children we would walk to elementary school by ourselves… or so we thought, but no, mom was secretly following us in the shadows always there to protect us. After school mom always had a meal and snack waiting for us.

Her life was a living example of the Bible verse Ephesians 4:23, “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in
Christ.” She loved all of her grandchildren and rejoiced in their achievements. She showed us what the true meaning of what love really is. Darling, we will miss you.
