Barbara Jean Potts, 76, peacefully passed to her eternal reward on December 12, 2023 in Mesa, Arizona surrounded by her loved ones. A memorial was held in her honor on December 18 at Sun Valley church of Christ, and internment following at Mountain View Funeral Home.
Barbara was born on January 13, 1947 in Pampa, Texas to Paul and Dorothy (Duke) Nelson. She married Monnie Jan Potts on December 26, 1963. They celebrated 57 years of marriage until Jan’s passing in 2021. The couple served as house parents with the High Plains Children’s Home in Amarillo, Texas during the 1970s. Barbara received her Associate of Applied Arts in Interior Design from Texas State Technical Institute and worked as an interior designer for Ethan Allen in Amarillo. After relocating to Mesa, Arizona in 1989, she worked as a clothing sales associate for Robinsons-May and Macy’s. Later, Barbara devoted over 20 years as an office manager for her son’s business.
Her warm and compassionate personality radiated through her hospitality while she served alongside her husband at Sun Valley church of Christ. Barbara was a faithful servant always delighted in serving others. Barbara’s passion for decorating and hosting parties in her home left a lasting impression. Barbara was the most dedicated mother and grandmother, who dearly loved her children and grandchildren.
Although Alzheimer’s interrupted her ability to serve others, Barbara always had a smile on her face and her loving spirit persisted. She continued to bring joy to those around her and delighted in spending time with her family, especially her beloved dog Zoë.
Barbara is survived by her son Kevin Potts and his wife Dana; daughter Staci Singleton and her husband Charles of Mesa, Arizona. She was beloved “Grandma” to her four grandchildren; Hannah and Hayden Potts and Shealee and Grant Singleton of Mesa, Arizona. She is preceded in death by her husband, their infant child Brian, her parents, and brother, Paul Nelson, Jr.
She will forever be remembered as a loving wife, wonderful mother, and the best grandma. Above all, she was a faithful servant of Christ.
A special thank you to Emerald Glen Memory Care for the wonderful care given to Barbara over these last few years. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made on Barbara’s behalf to the Bear Valley Bible Institute to further the spread of God’s Word.
