Floyd C. John died on March 19, 2024 in Mesa, Arizona at age 88 after a slow decline into dementia, and an extended nursing home stay.
Floyd and his twin brother, Lloyd, were born on November 2, 1935 in Tremonton, Utah to James Clifford and Verna Lundberg John. He was one of seven children. He was raised in Evans, a small farming community southwest of Tremonton, and attended McKinley Elementary and Bear River High School.
Floyd married Marilyn G. Eberhard on November 28, 1952. They had five children together before they divorced in 1968. Then he was married to Anna Marie Quinn Kessler for three years. After their divorce, he married Sally Ann Salazar Blamey on October 31, 1971. They lived in Northern Utah, and then later in Apache Junction, Arizona. Sally died on June 17, 2004. He married Mary Ann Spraggins Bridges on December 14, 2004 and the couple lived in Mesa, Arizona. They were sealed in the Mesa Arizona Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on April 8, 2006, and they later served there as temple workers. Mary Ann died on March 17, 2018.
Floyd was very hardworking, and held a variety of jobs. As a young man he worked on his family’s farm. After he married, he traveled from job to job working for a drilling company taking his family along in a trailer. When his children were ready for school, he got a job as a purchasing agent for Thiokol and settled down in Tremonton. He moved his family to Roy, Utah when he got a job as general manager of R.W. Taylor Steel Company. When he left there, he worked as a bar tender and restaurant owner for a while before going to Syro Steel Company in Centerville, Utah as their production manager. Then he worked as a project manager for Clean Air, Inc., a company that built waste incinerators for municipalities across the country. While he worked there, he was the co-inventor for four incinerator related patents. When he moved to Arizona, he started a trailer repair business which he ran for several years, and after the company closed, he continued working as a handyman well into his 80’s.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; 5 of his 6 siblings, Elaine M. Andersen, Lloyd C. John, Charlet LaRae Hight, Theron J. John, and Bryan L. John; a son, Cory L. John; and two daughters-in-law, Tamara K. John, and Carol A. John. He is survived by a sister, Eunice Ann Hight; a sister-in-law, Sharon M. John; 4 children, J. Brent (Diane) John, Brian F. (Alice) John, Craig John, and Marilee (Jeff) Michelsen; 7 stepchildren, Harvey (Susan) Blamey, Linda Blamey, Carla (Eric) Anderson, Lisa (Joel) Chaira, David Steven Holm, Nancy D. (Dan) Belman, and Meredith Everett; and numerous grandchildren and greatgrandchildren.
Services for Floyd will be held at the Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 7900 E. Main St., in Mesa, Arizona where he will be entombed. Visitation will be at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, March 27th, with services following at 2:00 pm. The family suggests a donation be made in Floyd’s name to the charity of
your choice in lieu of flowers.
