Don Chesnut, 91, of Apache Junction, Arizona, passed away at home surrounded by family on April 20, 2024.
Don was born in Bingham Canyon, UT to Joseph Ivan Chesnut and Gladys Agnes Fisher on July 30, 1932. He married Verda Carrie Grace on June 16, 1954 in Carlin, Nevada, and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona Temple on July 25, 1998.
Don was an excellent craftsman, particularly in woodworking. He spent his career as a Heavy Equipment Operator for various copper mines in Nevada and Arizona. Don was also the president of United Steelworkers Union of America, Local 124; this position took him all over the United States. His service in the United States Navy during the Korean War took him all over the world. Don and Verda were able to serve a faithful mission in the Mesa Temple for two years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters: Peggy Ann Laub, Francis Gay Sorenson, and Colette (Butch) Street; brother: Joseph Melvin Chesnut; son-in-law: Ted DeLeon; great-granddaughter: Riley Chantel Vozza.
He is survived by their five children: Terri (Mike) Neff, St. George, UT; Stan (Teri) Chesnut, Tucson, AZ; Don (Linette) Chesnut, Safford, AZ; Connie DeLeon, Ruth, NV; Ray (Teri) Chesnut, Kamas, UT. Sister: Vickie Lee Ricks. 11 Grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren. And many other family and friends.
Services will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home 7900 E. Main Street Mesa, AZ 85207 on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at 11:30 AM. A viewing will precede the service at 11:00 AM. Internment will immediately follow the service at the Mountain View Cemetery.
