“We do not have to rely on memories to recapture the spirit of those we have loved and lost – they live within our souls in some perfect sanctuary which even death cannot destroy.”
-Nan Witcomb

Esther’s life began May 14, 1933, in Litchfield, Arizona. In the early morning of September 30, 2024, Esther Teresa Celis was freed of her earthly body to live eternal with her Savior. She passed peacefully at home in Apache Junction, Arizona.

Born and raised in Arizona, Esther grew up in the small mining town of Sonora with her four sisters and one brother. Surrounded by a close-knit community of friends and family, she eventually met her future husband, Frank Celis. Together, they had three children, Beverly, Laura, and Charles, who eventually gave them nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren. Frank and Esther were married for sixty six years at the time of his passing in March of 2022.

Esther had a love and talent for music that she shared with her husband and passed along to her family. She was always singing, up until her dying day, holding tight to the comfort music brought her.

Esther, at her core, was a caregiver. She was a devoted wife and mother, whose priority was caring for her family. She was an adored sister and aunt, as well as a beloved Nana. Everyone was always welcome in her home, and it acted as a second to her family, especially all of her grandchildren. Before and after school, throughout summer breaks, at any time, she opened her home to family and friends giving and supporting how she could and how she did best. There was no visiting Esther’s, or Nana’s, house without eating something she would prepare just for you.

Woven deep into the fabric of her loved ones, you’ll find the imprint of Esther Celis. The love and joy she brought to
our lives is immeasurable and unforgettable. She is a treasured piece of our lives that will be missed.
