Arthur Douglas Franz, 77, passed away at his home in Mesa, Arizona on December 16th, 2020. Doug was born on August 5th, 1943 in Sidney, Montana, to Otto and Myrtle (Obergfell) Franz. Doug married Joyce (Cleveland) on June 5th, 1964 at HiWay Baptist Church in Mesa, Arizona. Doug moved to Mesa, Arizona in 1952 with his parents and graduated from Mesa High School
in 1961. Doug joined the Air Force in 1969 and was a welder. After completing 4 years of service, he was hired by Goettls. And then, he was employed by Mesa Public Schools where he started as a bus mechanic, moved on to maintenance working with sheet metal, and finally became a maintenance foreman. He retired from Mesa Public Schools on June 29th, 1998.
Doug enjoyed hunting and working on his house and in his backyard. Doug and his wife Joyce enjoyed traveling, and spent most of the summers in Northern Arizona in their 5th wheel.
Doug is survived by his wife Joyce, his son Marty, his daughter Kelly, his sister Virginia, his grandchildren Colton and Christian Franz, and his three great-grandchildren.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Myrtle, his brother Paul Franz, and sisters Alice Verhulst and Alvina Franz.
A celebration of life with friends and family will be held at a later date.
