Craig A. Cox, a devoted family man and cherished friend, passed away peacefully at his home on September 10, 2024. Born in Geneseo, Illinois, December 11th 1947, Craig is preceded in death by his father, Sheldon Cox; his mother, Genevieve Canty; his sister, Michelle Downin; and his beloved wife, Lynne Cox. He is survived by his stepson Scott Schoonover, nephew James Downin, nephew Andrew Downin and niece Rebecca McAuliffe.
Craig’s life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to those he loved. Known for his compassionate heart, he began his career in the 1970s as an EMT, and his dedication to service continued as he worked as a police and fire dispatcher for the city of Mesa, Arizona, from 1976 to 2003. His professional career was marked by a deep sense of duty and an enduring care for others.
Throughout his life, Craig was celebrated for always putting his family first. His kindness, generosity, and selflessness touched the lives of many, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Craig leaves behind a legacy of love and service that will continue to inspire those who knew him. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the many lives he touched through his work and personal relationships.
A private memorial service will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Craig’s memory.
