Craig Allen Handel, 56, passed away at home from pancreatic cancer on February 27, 2014. Craig was born in St. Paul, MN on June 29, 1957, son of Harold and Mable Handel. He graduated in 1975 from Hopkins Eisenhower High School in Hopkins, MN. He joined ROTC while attending college at Mankato State University in Mankato, MN. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1982. After graduating he began serving as a Military Intelligence Officer until 1993, earning several medals and attaining the rank of Captain. He then served in the Reserves and attained the rank of Major. He met his wife Irmgard while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. They were married on November 27, 1986, in Copenhagen, Denmark. He and his wife owned The Grand Antique Mall in Mesa, AZ. He was an admired business owner. He loved traveling and spending time at their lake home in Nevis, MN. He is predeceased by his wife, Irmgard, who died on January 13, 2014, and by a niece Ashlie Hill. He is survived by his parents, Harold and Mable Handel, brother Michael (Lisa), sister Carmen Hill (David), brother Scott (Lynn), 11 nieces and nephews, and many other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life service was held at Mountain View Funeral Home, 7900 E. Main St. Mesa, AZ, at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 7. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Ironwood Cancer Center, or Banner Hospice.
