It is with great sadness that the family of David Lee Rankin from Mesa, Arizona announces his passing on Sunday, March 13th 2021, after losing his battle with Covid related pneumonia at the age of 84.  David grew up in Baltimore, Maryland.  He graduated from the University of Maryland, and had a career as a self-employed stock broker and entrepreneur.

He will be remembered by his wife of 35 years, the former JoAnne Ogle Walter.  David loved his family, both his blood relatives and those he acquired by marriage, including JoAnne’s children and grandchildren.  Pictures and notes of his nieces and nephews delighted him and kept him connected to his East coast family. He had no biological children of his own.

Bridge was a lifetime passion.  He became a Master at bridge and taught it in recent years.  In fact, he and JoAnne married during an intermission in a bridge tournament in Las Vegas.  His ability to keep in touch with family and friends is legendary.  His jokes, stories and pictures will be missed by many.,

David is survived by his wife JoAnne Rankin, his sister Lona Siegal née Rankin of Annapolis MD, Lona’s sons Jay Esterson, Andrew (Kim) Esterson, David’s grandnieces Joy and Nicole Esterson and Lauren Esterson Bradshaw (Benjamin), his grandnephew Eric Esterson (Shelly), and five great-grand-nephews and nieces: Bradley, Allison, and Alex Esterson and Kiley and Camryn Bradshaw. He is also survived by his three step-sons Aaron (Maureen) and their children Meghan, Connor, and Kiera.  Step-son Jonathan (Jennifer) and their children Jamison, Holden, and Davis. And step-son Jason (Dawn) and their children Kara, Caitlin, Dylan and Aidan. Also surviving are his ex-wives Suellen Sugarman and Linda McDonough.

David was the son of Emanuel Louis Rankin “Mannie” 1902-1988 and Nellie née Gordon Rankin 1905- 1983. David requested cremation and donations may be made in David’s name to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with notices sent to Jason Walter, 1016 Alicante Dr. Danville, CA 94526.
