Earl (Bud) Rodney Jenkins was born on November 8, 1923 on a farm near Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania. He passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona. He was the fourth child of George and Stella (Winnie) Jenkins. Earl spent his childhood on the farm and attended a country school through eighth grade. He attended Tunkhannock High while living during the week with his Grandmother Jenkins and graduated in 1941. He attended Electrical School in Washington D.C. He then went to work for IBM where he worked for 42 years. During his career Earl worked in many places in the United States and also in Japan and France. His last two years he worked in Tucson, Arizona and retired to Mesa, Arizona in 1984. He married Hazel Minor on June 4, 1949. She preceded him in death in 2000. On December 24, 2002 he married Joan (Buchan) Hartke in Mesa. He was a member of Velda Rose Methodist Church where he was an usher for many years. Earl was an avid golfer and had eight holes-in-one at the Fountain of the Sun Country Club. He was an active member and served as an officer of different leagues and on many committees. He played bridge, loved music and was a wonderful dancer. Earl was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Hazel; brothers, James, Kenneth and Jerry; sisters, Margaret Claypoole, Katherine Monsey, Hazel (Jeff) Martinson and Jennie Bartron and other friends and relatives. Earl is survived by his wife, Joan; her sons, Bradley (Liz) and their five children and Douglas (Lisa) and the love of his life, their daughter, Katie, who called him Grandpa; his sister, Berry Monsey; his brother, Jack; sisters-in-law, Jean Best, Beulah Erickson, Peggy Burgeson, Cleone (Art) Syverson, Elaine Buchan and brothers-in-law, Merville Steen, Art Syverson and Joe Monsey, along with other friends and relatives. A memorial service will be held at Velda Rose United Methodist Church, 5540 E. Main Street, Mesa on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Memorials to Velda Rose United Methodist Church, American Heart Association or a charity of your choice would be appreciated in Earl’s name.
