Evangelina C. Morales, known affectionately as Eva, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2024, in Mesa, Arizona, at the age of 93. Born on July 4, 1930, in Sonora, Arizona, Eva led a distinguished life marked by her dedication to her community and her family.

Eva excelled academically, graduating as Valedictorian from Ray High School in 1948, setting the stage for a remarkable career with the United States Postal Service. She broke barriers in 1958 by becoming the Postmaster in Sonora, Arizona, at the young age of 28, receiving congressional nominations from both Barry Goldwater and Carl Hayden. She later served as Postmaster in Kearny, Arizona, until her retirement in 1990. Her 42 years of service were characterized by a steadfast commitment to excellence and community service. Her dedication extended beyond her career as she was actively involved in the US Postmaster’s League, the General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Kearny ARC, and the American Cancer Society.

A devout member of St. Helen’s Parish in Sonora, and later at Infant Jesus of Prague church in Kearny, she actively participated in the church altar society, choir and various social activities. She was active in the Catholic Cursillo movement. Eva’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, providing strength and solace through her years.
Eva’s personality was a blend of quiet seriousness and a sharp wit. Her sense of humor, often revealed in subtle ways, brought joy and laughter to those around her. She cherished her personal and family relationships deeply. Eva was preceded in death by her beloved husband and “Honey”, Ansurio Morales; her mother, Delfina Chavez; her father, Pedro Chavez; and her siblings, Mike Duarte, Jose Duarte, Mary Louise Quiroz, and Alejandro Chavez.

She was a loving matriarch and is survived by her daughters, Viola Dodge (Bobby), Melissa Odom (Sam), Patricia Brady (Stan), and Elisa Spangler; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; and multiple nephews and nieces. Eva Morales lived a life full of purpose and love, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. Her memory will be cherished, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who loved and respected her.

Visitation and Rosary will be held on July 19, 2024, from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Mountain View Funeral Home, 7900 E Main St, Mesa, AZ. A Funeral Mass is scheduled for July 20, 2024, at 10:00 am at Saint Benedict Catholic Church, 16223 S 48th St, Phoenix, AZ. Burial will immediately follow at Mountain View Cemetery, Mesa, AZ.
