Marcene Myers rejoined her late husband, James “J.C.” Myers, on August 12, 2024, after successfully fighting cancer for several years. She passed away peacefully two weeks after her 94th birthday, at home with her family by her side.
Born Francis Marcene Crider in 1930 in Cullman, AL, she was the youngest of the six surviving children of Henry and Effie Crider. She married J.C. Myers in August of 1952, and spent the rest of her life loving him. Marcene enjoyed gardening, was an accomplished seamstress, and baked the best pecan pie in the world. You could find her outdoors as often as possible, hiking or traveling. A charter member of Red Mountain United Methodist Church in Mesa, AZ, she remained an active member until her health no longer permitted. Marcene’s love of God and her family radiated out into every area of her life. A matriarch who led by example when it came to love and family bonds, she was the heart and soul of her tight-knit family.
Marcene was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Effie Crider, and her brothers William, Grover, Eugene “Buddy”, and Leon, as well as the love of her life, James “J.C.” Myers.
She lives on in her sister, Era Mae Leverett; children Larry (Deena) Myers, Sharon (Tom) Smith, and Randy Myers; grandchildren Heather (Tim) Eckholdt, Ashley (Darrell) Smith, Andy (Sarah) Smith, James Clark Myers II, Kristyna Myersova, Nicholas Myers, and Samuel Myers; great-grandchildren Lillian, Madeline, Paisley, Palmer, Parker, Issaih, and Xavier; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 24th, 1:00PM. Location is Red Mountain United Methodist Church, 2936 N Power Road in Mesa.
I knew Marcene as my sister-in-law, Sharon Smith’s mom. Marcene was an independent strong woman who wasn’t hesitant to express her opinion. What shone brightly was her love for her family. Marcene’s grandchildren and great children loved her dearly and those memories will keep her alive in their hearts. With great respect, Rest in Peace.
