Harold C. Rounds, age 86, was born in Bond, Maryland and, even though he lived in Arizona for more than 60 years, he still had a that little Maryland/West Virginia southern accent.
The U S Air Force sent Harold to Arizona where he met and married Patsy Coleman in 1954. They had three sons, Harold E., Lee W., and Robert R. The Rounds family spent their whole life in Mesa. Harold worked for thirty years for the telephone company as an installer and repairman. In 1988 Harold met and married Evelyn Dunlap and has spent the last 29 years enjoying his family including ten grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, fishing, and “messing around in the yard”.
A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home on Thursday, January 25th at 2:00 PM with reception to follow at REED HALL in the DREAMLAND VILLA RETIREMENT COMMUNITY CENTER on E. University and 56th St. in Mesa.
I first met Harold in l958 along with his first wife Patsy. My husband Jim Alcorn and Harold worked on the same line crew at the telephone company. The four of us became best of friends and decided to buy our first homes in the same subdivision in Mesa. We lived 4 doors apart for 12 years raising out two boys and their 3 boys together. So many memories.
We met Evelyn after they got married and felt like we had known her for years and we saw how happy they were together.
A couple of years ago Evelyn planned a “Get together” of family and friends. It actually was her birthday but she didn’t want gifts so she didn’t tell anyone.
Harold had a wonderful and happy life. He loved his sons and their families.
May he now rest in peace.
