Marie Karan Hancock entered her eternal home Sunday, April 8th in Mesa, Arizona. She was born February 8, 1946 to Chesley and Doris Lewis in Great Falls, Montana.
Marie went to school in Billings, Montana where she met the love of her life and best friend, Gary Hancock. After finishing school she attended Butte College. She and Gary started DoMar Oil and Gas, Inc., in 1983 in Liberal, Kansas where they lived for over 20 years. In 1999, they moved to their hometown, Billings, Montana where they purchased the Happy Diner and ran it until Gary decided to go back into the oil and gas industry, which lead them to Farmington, New Mexico. Upon Gary’s retirement they became snowbirds, choosing to winter in Mesa Dunes (Mesa, Arizona) with Farmington remaining their home base.
Marie loved being with her family. She and Gary had two children, Karan and William. Gary’s career moved the family a lot so Marie made sure Karan and Will settled in to new schools and made new friends. Many of the children’s friends considered her as their Mom, too.
Marie is survived by husband of 53 years, Gary Hancock. Children, Karan (Hancock) Ediger and husband Kevin of Edmond, Oklahoma, William Hancock of Farmington, New Mexico; grandchildren, Kennedy Porter and Logan and Kristen Ediger; twin sister, Mariann and husband David Riddle of Billings, Montana; sisters, Elsie Ketterling, Judy and husband Steve Maples, Randa and husband Kirk Schroeder; and brother, Don Lewis. She is preceded in death by her parents and her in-laws, William and Jessie Hancock; sister, Audrey Usselton; and brothers, Norman and Clyde Lewis and Duane Tafolla.
A Celebration of Life service is planned for Saturday, April 28th at Pinion Hills Church in Farmington, New Mexico and 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Pinion Hills Church, 5101 N. Dustin Avenue, Farmington NM, 87401.
