Pauline Washko Stewart, 83, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025 in Mesa, Arizona.
Born on September 8, 1941, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Pauline was the only child of Theodore Paul and Evelyn Anna (Oswald) Washko.
As a young child, her family moved to San Bernardino, California. In 1973, she fell in love with the Arizona desert when she and her husband moved to Casa Grande with their sons. After a return to California, she met and married her husband, Don. Her yearning for a view of the Superstition Mountains led her back to Arizona where they settled in Gold Canyon. They enjoyed walking below those beautiful mountains. She was a member of the Apache Junction Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Pauline earned a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition from Loma Linda University, Loma Linda, California.
Pauline is survived by her husband of 38½ years, Donald Ivan Stewart; her two sons, Richard Sherman (Erin) and Edwin Sherman; her two grandsons, Nicolas Sherman (Alex) and Tyler Sherman (Jayme); and her three great-grandchildren, Wyatt, Ainsley, and Lucas Sherman. She is also survived by her step-daughters, Laura Montz and Jennifer Montz; and three sisters-in-law, Quita Marie “Lily” Gilley, Patricia Hutchins, and Diane McClanahan.
She was predeceased by her parents, Theodore and Evelyn, and her stepfather, Billie Baxter.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at the Mountain View Cemetery Chapel, 7900 E. Main Street, Mesa, Arizona. Pastor Lauran Merginio of the Apache Junction Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate the service.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Pauline’s memory may be made to the Adobe Adventist Christian School, 9910 E. Adobe Road, Mesa, AZ 85207.
