Rachel Alphonsine Swinford, 91 of Mesa, AZ passed away on 3/24/2014 at home after living a long full life. She was born November 8, 1922 to Leopold and Emma Heyninck in Rock Island, IL, where she attended high school. She married James A. Swinford in St. Paul’s Rectory, Rock Island, IL October 23, 1945. Preceding her in death were her husband James Swinford, parents Emma and Leopold, brother Alphonse, sisters Augusta McCarthy, Leona Verschoore, and Elodie Colman. She is survived by daughters: Debra Peterson of Mesa, AZ; Susan Kammerman of Mesa, AZ; Sally Swinford of Tucson, AZ; Sherry Swinford of Evansville, IN; daughters and sons-in-law: Gale and Mario Garcia of Sun City West, AZ; Bonnie and Tom Proksch of Lake Warren, IL, sons and daughters-in-law: Dennis and Dianne Swinford of Aledo, IL; Gary and Miyori Swinford of Columbus, MS. She was blessed with 12 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. She was a volunteer at Del Webb Hospital and resale gift shop in Sun City West for 12 years. She was a former member of the Red Hat Society and she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling, oil painting, decorating hats, making jewelry and playing cards.
