Robert Edward Strom passed away at age 100 (and 1/2)on 1/19/2019.
Bob was born in Syracuse NY, spent his childhood in Moravia NY, attended Syracuse University and lived most of his life in Groton NY. He was always known to be honest and kind. He was a man of his word, served on many boards and was one of the leaders in the Groton community.
He spent five years in the Army during WWII in the transportation department and was in one of the first units to arrive at Pearl Harbor. He was proud to serve in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines, New Britain and Guadalcanal. His main duties involvedsafely driving the commanding officers. He achieved many accommodations, medals and awards. He was also the “company bugler” and played reveille every morning and taps every night on his trumpet.
When he returned from the Army, he immediatelymarried his pen pal and love of his life, Mary Pollack.They were married for over 50
years. He retired as personnel director from Smith Corona Typewriter factory in Groton/Cortland, New York and moved permanently to Arizona in 1992 to be closer to his family. He loved watching sporting events, bicycling, shooting pool, and his family most of all.
He was preceded in death by Mary, his beloved wife of over 50 years.
Survivors include his daughter, Barbara Merriman (Warren), and sons, Bob Strom (Bobbie Jo) and William Strom (Sharon).
He will also be deeply missed by his 9 grandchildren, 11 great children and numerous nieces and nephews.
