Shirley Gertrude Sobol Ulrich passed away Wednesday, January 1, 2020. She was born Columbus Day 1926 in Detroit, Michigan to Helen and Otto Sobol. She resided in the Detroit area during her childhood and most of her adult life. In 1948 she was married to her husband of 57 years, Robert Edward Ulrich, who preceded her in death in 2003. Sons Robert and Richard preceded Shirley in death in 1981 and 2005 respectively. Shirley is survived by daughter Carol Ann and husband William Clark, step-grand-daughter Cody Clark Woodson and family; along with nephews David, Paul, and Mark Wehrwein; nephews Michael and Ted Berry; and niece Ann Berry Fiske and their respective families. In 2003 Shirley moved to Mesa, Arizona from Seminole, Florida where she had resided with her husband for 20 years.
The family wishes to extend special thanks, and gratitude to Tony Malaescu and his family of Mesa Elder Care where Shirley resided during the last 28 months of her life. The home-like environment and loving professional care provided by the Malaescus allowed Shirley to live in relative contentment despite the discomforts and indignities of her declining health. The family also wishes to extend special thanks and gratitude to the members of Church of the Master in Mesa, Arizona and other friends of Shirley who provided her with regular visits of friendship and fellowship.
A memorial service for Shirley will be Friday January 17, 2020 at 10:00 am at Church of the Master in Mesa, Arizona. Shirley’s remains will by laid to rest next to her husband, parents, sons, and other family members at Lakeview Cemetery at Torch Lake, Michigan.
