Sondra Maureen Byrne, age 79, of Mesa, AZ, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2018. She was born March 17, 1939 in Lincoln, NE. She moved from Crocket, TX, to Arizona in 2016. She enjoyed living at Las Palmas Grand, where she was able to continue her lifelong love of music as a member of their choir.
Sondra was a graduate of the University Northern Colorado in Greeley Colorado in Elementary Education. She is a Member of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority. Sondra enjoyed teaching and was a member of many clubs, church groups and organizations. Sondra especially enjoyed acting in community theater in all of the communities in which she lived (which were many as the wife of a Lt Colonel in the US Air Force).
Sondra was married for 50 years to Richard Byrne (deceased, 2013). She is survived by her three children: Kevin Byrne, of Bethpage, TN, Patty Harrington, of Mesa, AZ, and Matthew Byrne, of Westminster, MD. Sondra’s grandchildren include Catherine Byrne, Collin Byrne, Cameron Byrne, Shannon Harrington, Robyn Harrington, Tyler Byrne, and Daniel Byrne.
I have so many good memories of working with Sondra here in Maryland at the Gift Shop-her enthusiasm with customers was unbeatable! Sondra loved her family and we especially enjoyed watching her make special packages for her grandchildren. May pleasant memories of love sustain her family during this difficult time.

Sondra was such a sweet friend. My condolences to all the family. I met Sondra at the Houston County Historical Commission. We still miss her.
Sondra was a lovely, lively woman. We met in 2004 in MS when our husbands attended a 40 year reunion of the Kappa Sigma Brothers. We stayed in touch and a couple years later several of “the brothers” and wives ended up in close enough proximity to each other to get together often for dinners and just enjoying the fellowship. I am saddened to hear of her passing, but comforted in the knowledge that she is reunited with Richard in the arms of our Lord. Prayers for comfort for you and the entire family.
Saddened to hear of Sondra’s passing. We were distant cousins via the John Harris/ Fox family. I met her and Richard during a short visit to Greeley, NE a few years back. Very nice lady. I cherish the memory of that trip.
So very sorry to hear about Sondra’s passing. I was a part of her Gift House family. We made many wonderful memories and lifelong friendships there. May she now Rest In Peace.
I was so saddened to hear about Sondra. We have such wonderful memories of her and Richard living in Plantation Oaks and our trip to New Orleans. Sondra had a beautiful voice and a wonderful smile. I will miss messaging her on Facebook to keep in touch. Sue and Bob Persch
It is so sad to hear about Sondra. She was so excited about moving to Mesa. We worked together at the Houston County Historical Commission in Crockett.
I am so sorry to hear of Sondra’s passing. We are distant cousins on her Proffitt side of the family. She helped me so much with our family history, a pastime which I knew she loved. Heartfelt condolences to the family.
