Stewart Thomas Smith & Carol Ann Smith

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my Dad, TSGT Stewart Thomas Smith. He passed on October 15th, 2021 in his home surrounded by his daughter Theresa Smith and grandson Jordan Smith.

Stewart was born May 5th, 1939 in Owensboro, Kentucky to Uffie Smith and Mary Katherine (Wedding) Smith. He joined the Air Force in 1960. While stationed in Austin, Texas he met his future wife, Carol. They were married in that very city in 1964. They had five children. Stewart served two tours in Vietnam and one tour in Korea while enlisted. After Stewart did his tours he was stationed in San Antonio, TX. After a brief stay there, they were stationed to Williams Air Force Base (Now Phoenix-Gateway) in 1975. Stewart retired in 1981 at Williams Air Force Base and chose Mesa to build his home and plant some roots! After retirement he worked at Florence Prison for ten years. After that he worked at Gainey ranch for nine years.

Carol Smith, was born on September 18th, 1938 in Iowa to George and Mary Elizabeth (Shultz) Laubenthal. She passed on July 29, 2015 at the Lund Home under hospice care in Gilbert, Arizona surrounded by her family. Carol worked and took care of all five kids while dad was away. She did an incredible job! Carol worked on base at the Base Exchange from 1977 to 1993, retiring when the base closed.

Stewart was preceded in death by Carol, his loving wife of 51 years; his parents; six sisters, Lorena, Miriam, Betty Jean, Francis, Marie, Georgia “Jo”, and brother Raymond Smith of Kentucky

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary (Laubenthal) Grover, and brother Robert “Bob” Laubenthal.

Both were also preceded in death by their eldest daughter Susan (Lindsay) George in 2014. Stewart and Carol were survived by their 4 children and several grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Stewart and Carol truly enjoyed each other’s company. Their lives were filled with love and respect for one another. It was an absolute honor to be their daughter! May God bless them both forever! We love you forever!
