Sue Addington Kilgore
Sue Addington Kilgore (nee Dallas) was born in Brooklyn, NY on January 4,1935 to Harvey
and Cora Dallas.
After finishing high school, Sue began nurse’s training at South Hampton Hospital in NY.
Upon completing her training, she worked at the South Hampton Hospital while waiting on her
orders to become a nurse upon a cruise line. This allowed her to fulfill her dream of seeing
the Caribbean and Europe. It also gave her an adventure that became one of her
grandchildrens favorite stories – how she sailed through the SAME hurricane twice. Once
back on land, she took a course to specialize in surgical nursing. Sue would also regard
surgical nursing as her most rewarding medical assignment.

Sue worked in several hospitals back East, as well as in California. While working and living
in Ridgecrest, California, Sue undertook another challenge and earned her pilot’s license. It
was then that she met her husband, Joseph Kilgore. Sue and Joe were blessed with two
sons, Scott and Craig. Sue, never one to sit idle, took time off from nursing to raise the boys
and help Joe with his flying business, Desert Aero, at the Inyokern Airport. After a few years,
an opportunity arose in Mesa, Arizona and the family moved. Sue resumed her nursing
career at this time, working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Phoenix and later as an Occupational
Nurse for Motorola. Sue retired from Motorola after 23 years but never truly retired as a nurse in her heart. She would often remind her family and friends she was a “nurse of a thousand
years”.

No matter where in the world Sue’s adventures took her, she remained a true believer in God and a strong member of her community. Sue was dedicated to her family and faith. Sue’s life was not without tragedy, as she was preceded in death by her husband, both sons, and a granddaughter. However, Sue’s faith never wavered. She knew that she would be reunited with those she loved.

Sue is preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Cora Dallas, husband Joseph W.
Kilgore, sons Scott A. Kilgore and Craig W. Kilgore, and granddaughter Kaylyn R. Kilgore.
She is survived by brother Peter Dallas (Christine), daughter-in-law Stephanie (Scott),
grandchildren Logan Harrison (Willow), Rhiannon Kilgore and Aidan Kilgore and great
grandchildren Alazai Harrison and Emmett Gracia. She is also survived by her niece Jeneane Prince (Rick).
Sue had a tremendous impact on all that knew her and she will be missed by her family,
friends, and community. Her family liked to say Sue was tiny in stature, but big in heart and
attitude.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made, in Sue’s honor, to one of two
charities near and dear to her heart – Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch in Bend, Or who provide
horse therapy for abused children, or Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Yorktown Heights, NY.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 15th at 2:00 at the Mountain View Funeral Home
at 7900 E. Main Street, Mesa Arizona. There will be a reception following. In honor of Sue,
and her love of the color purple, the family asks a token of purple be worn to her service. Sue
was full of love, life and color and we want to honor that.

Sue was a dear friend to me for over 25 years. I had the pleasure of being her hairstylist. We shared many stories of our families, the Lord, and our love of dogs. She will be remembered forever. Sue just got promoted. Love you sweet friend

  2. Sandy Lawrence says:

Sending condolences to Sue’s family and her many friends. Sue was our kind neighbor next door in CDR. Sue loved her dog, Jack and also enjoyed her flowers and fruit trees. Sue enjoyed her church and singing in the church choir and being involved in their Spring productions. We always enjoyed listening to her life adventures as a pilot and cruise ship nurse. May she rest in peace as she joins her sons in Heaven. Sending caring thoughts.

  3. Shari Lobenstein says:

I had not heard from this dear old friend in ages….a search resulted in this sad news….. Sue and I worked together for years… remembering when Joe was so ill and passed. Both Sue and I each lost both our two sons…way too soon…
