Thomas was born in Iron Mountain, Michigan and his family later moved to Phoenix Arizona. At age seventeen Tom joined the Navy and served as a nose gunner on a PBM, during WWII.
After discharge from the Navy he returned to Phoenix Arizona, where he met and married the love of his life of 72 years, Virginia Abbott (Martz). Shortly after, his daughter Margaret and son David were born and they relocated as a family to Alaska where they homesteaded on their own island. As a family they later ended up moving to Anchorage Alaska where son’s Paul and Mark were born. Tom was a very successful real estate broker, but the Lord called him into the ministry and he gave it all up and became a minister at Abbott Loop Christian Center.
After the kids were older, Tom and Virginia left Alaska and eventually relocated to Mesa Arizona where Tom became the service distributor for Rainbow vacuums and eventually retired altogether in 2004. Since retirement, both Tom and Virginia had the opportunity to spend time with each of their sons, until Tom’s passing on May 31st 2019.
He is survived by his wife Virginia, his three sons (David, Paul and Mark), 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Tom was preceded in death by his daughter Margaret McMillon (Abbott).
Tom was a hardworking man, a loving husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family, but most importantly loved the Lord with all of his heart. His family takes great comfort knowing he is now rejoicing with the Lord and with his daughter Margaret.
Lot’s of good memories with Tommy and Virginia. Looking forward to the other side, when we’ll all be united. Love to Virginia and the family.
I was proud to call Tom and Gina friends. I look forward to seeing him back home.
Tom was a wonderful servant of the Lord…. and married 72 years, that is a record and example of Commitment!! All the Ángels rejoiced at his arrival and I rejoice with them. Back down here, I’m so sorry for the grief you all feel. May the Good Shepherd lead you and bring you peace, especially at this time. Blessed be God Forever!!
Tommy was a wonderful friend to my husband, Jerry Olson with whom there were many long and rewarding conversations. There is no doubt that there are many jewels in both of their crowns as they wear them with great humility and gratefulness in the presence of the Lord. Someday we will all be together again and for eternity, “But Until Then” I pray peace and comfort for you, Virginia and your family.
