Thomas (“Tom”) Venance Charbonneau, 85, of Apache Junction, Arizona passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015, at Horizon Bay Retirement Community in Apache Junction.

Tom was born June 13, 1929 in Langdon, North Dakota to Edward and Odiana (Chaput) Charbonneau. He attended school at St. Alphonsus Catholic School in Langdon and graduated from high school at the Assumption Abbey in Richardton, North Dakota. Tom served in the U.S. Army from 1947 until 1951 during the Korean War. He worked as an engineer in California following his service and returned to Langdon in 1970 where he worked for the MSR Site in Nekoma, ND, the PAR site in Concrete, ND, and farmed until his retirement in 1989. He retired to Arizona where he resided in Mesa and then Apache Junction until his death. He was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church while living in Langdon and St. George Catholic Church in Apache Junction upon his retirement. Tom was always smiling and happy and he loved to dance.

Tom is survived by his sons, Brad (Patti) Charbonneau, of Livermore, CA, and Craig Charbonneau of Kings Beach, CA; his daughter, Kim (Vincent) Losito, of Greensboro, NC; his sister, DeLoris (Elmer) Bittner of Mesa, AZ, and brother, Marce (Carrie) Charbonneau of Rancho Mirage, CA; eight grandchildren: Justin (Jackie) Charbonneau of Livermore, CA; Kyle (Victoria) Charbonneau of Livermore, CA; Ryan (Ashley) Gustafson of Langdon; Aaron Gustafson of Langdon; Eve Charbonneau of Sacramento, CA; Kaitlin (Joey) Wilson of Madison, NC; Courtney Holt of Stokesdale, NC; and Joy Charbonneau of Pacifica, CA; and four great grandchildren, Kate Charbonneau, Kruz Charbonneau, Conner Gustafson and Sophia Wilson. He is also survived by a very special friend, Laura Lifgren, of Apache Junction, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 20 at St. George Catholic Church in Apache Junction and burial will be held in the summer at Calvary Cemetery in Langdon. Mountain View Funeral Home of Mesa, AZ, was in charge of arrangements. The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to St. George Catholic Church, 300 E. 16th Ave, Apache Junction, AZ 85119 or Brookdale Hospice, 2545 W. Frye Road, Suite 10B, Chandler, AZ 85224.
