Verda Carrie (Grace) Chesnut, 78, of Apache Junction, Arizona, passed away at home surrounded by family on July 5, 2015.

Verda was born in Lehi, Utah to David William Grace and Mary Alice Smith on November 11, 1936. She married Don Chesnut on June 16, 1954 in Carlin, Nevada, and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Mesa Arizona Temple on July 25, 1998. Together, they raised five children and enjoyed nothing more than being with them and their extended family. Verda was a loving wife and mother, and loyal friend. Don and Verda were able to serve a faithful mission in the Mesa Temple for two years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Billie Compton; sisters-in-law: Gay Sorenson and Peggy Laub; brothers-in-law: Veldon Dowley, Clifford “Blackie” Sorenson and Verdon Street.

She is survived by her husband and five children: Terri (Mike) Neff, St. George, UT; Stan (Teri) Chesnut, Tucson, AZ; Don (Linette) Chesnut, Safford, AZ; Connie (Ted) DeLeon, Ruth, NV; Ray (Teri) Chesnut, Kamas, UT. Siblings: Lawrence Grace, Verla Dowley, Jay Grace, and Della Adams. Sisters-in-law: Vickie Ricks and Colette Street. 11 Grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren. Many other family and friends.

Services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 1720 S. Ironwood Drive Apache Junction, AZ 85120 on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at 10AM. A viewing will precede the service at 9AM. Internment will immediately follow the service at Mountain View Cemetery 7900 E. Main Street Mesa, AZ 85207.

    Verda was a wonderful woman – the perfect combination of sugar and spice. She was always willing to listen and never afraid to speak her mind. I’m blessed that she was my grandmother. She was loved deeply, and will be missed just the same.
