It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Susan H. Swadburg on March 27, 2022 in her 83rd year, just short of her 84th birthday.

Susan was born on April 2nd, 1938 to Helen and Carl Peter in St. Paul, MN. She graduated from Murray High School in 1956, where she met the love of her life Donald J. Swadburg. Sue and Don met while singing in an octet in high school and continued singing throughout their lives. They were married on June 19th, 1959 at Como Lutheran church in St. Paul, MN.

Sue graduated from nursing school at Hamline University in 1959 just before their marriage. Nursing was a passion for Sue for many years and it is where she made dear friends and lasting memories. She worked in many nursing fields and continued to serve as a volunteer at Banner Baywood and Prescott Valley hospital after her career. She especially loved sharing these experiences with family and the nurses who cared for her in her later years.

Although Sue enjoyed nursing, her family always came first. She raised four wonderful children- Keith, Laurie, Craig and Beth. Family and faith were most important to her and she was proud of the fact that her and her children’s marriages stood the test of time (a combined 184 years of marriage).

While raised in St. Paul, MN, Sue and the family lived in Havre, MT, St. James, MN, Rice Lake, WI and finally settled in Mesa, AZ where she and Don have resided since 1986. They also enjoyed spending their summers in Prescott Valley, AZ the past 14 years.

Sue was a lifelong Christian, attending Christ Greenfield Lutheran church in Gilbert, AZ where she served in the Stephen Ministry. She was also an active member at Trinity Lutheran in Prescott Valley, AZ. She served the Lord with her whole heart and ran her race well! She loved sharing the gospel and exchanging stories of her faith with others.

Sue lived a full life as a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her many interests included traveling, taking the “back roads” of AZ, singing in numerous choirs with her husband Don, and antiquing . She loved conversation and was bright and entertaining until her final days.

Susan is preceded in death by her parents Carl and Helen, sister Audrey and brother Louis. She is survived by her husband Don, four children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, Ruby. She met and loved Ruby dearly in the last year of her life!

Donations may be made in Susan’s honor to National Kidney foundation of AZ at azkidney.org to support patients with kidney disease/dialysis.

We look forward to celebrating Susan’s life with family and friends on Saturday, May 14th at 10 AM at Christ Greenfield Lutheran Church, 425 N. Greenfield Rd, Gilbert, AZ.
