Ernest (Ernie) Larry Bohnet of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Parker, Colorado passed away on June 25, 2026 in Mesa, AZ.  He was born on July 30, 1945 to Edward Frank and Marguerite June Bohnet, Vancouver, BC, Canada. Ernie graduated from Edson high school, and later graduated from the University of Saskatchewan, with a degree in Mining Engineering. His career took him on many travels, nationally and internationally, working for Cypress Minerals, Freeport-McMoran, and Pincock-Alan Holt.  In 2009 he started hisown consulting company, Bohnet Global Mining, LLC.

In 2016 Ernie met Karen Johnson and they married in Colorado on October 21, 2017. In January Of 2018, Ernie and Karen purchased a motorhome and enjoyed many adventures traveling in the USA. In 2019 they became “snowbirds”, spending winter months at Apache Wells RV resort in Mesa, AZ. While there, Ernie joined several groups, playing pool, Texas Hold’em, and cribbage. In the four years Ernie and Karen spent there, they made many close and lasting friendships. In the spring of 2022 they purchased a home in Florence, AZ. After selling the house in Parker, CO, they moved to Florence, AZ. There, they purchased an ATV and enjoyed many trips to the desert and canyons near Florence.

Ernie’s hobbies Included model trains, woodworking, Legos, camping in the motorhome, jigsaw puzzles, reading, watching movies, and watching his favorite sports teams play hockey, football, hockey and baseball.

Ernie was a kind and gentle man, and he was very generous with his time, talents and finances; always willing to help others. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Karen Bohnet of Mesa, AZ; His children/grandchildren; Danielle Stilgenbauer (Rick), children Kate and Charlotte of Gilbert, AZ; Brooke Koronowski (Ryan) children, Josie, and Austin of Washington, DC; and David Bohnet, Tucson , AZ. His stepchildren: Todd Meier, Troy (Kimberly) Meier, Colorado; Michael York, Phoenix;Karl (Georgia) Suhanyi, Marc (Lisa) Suhanyi, Colorado; and brother-in-law’s Clyde Churchill Osakis, MN and Kurt Bares, CO. Step grandchildren are Autumn and Zachary Meier; Madeline and Cassandra Meier; Karlee and Katie Suhanyi; and Ryan Suhanyi, all of Colorado.

Ernie was prceeded in death by his brothers, Grant and Brian Bohnet; his sister-in-law’s Sandy and Karen Bohnet, and Jeannie Bares; and his late wife, Lily Bohnet.  He also leaves nieces and nephews through his brother, Grant Bohnet.

Ernie did not want to have a memorial service, so his family is honoring his wishes.
