Albert C. Mercado “Boydie”, aged 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on November 10, 2022 after a long battle of cancer.

Boydie was born on March 7, 1946 in Sonora, AZ. He graduated from Ray High school in 1965 and then went on to earn his associates degree at Central Arizona College. He then studied at Devry University and Arizona State University.

Boydie worked for Asarco in Hayden, AZ for 31 years, after retiring from the mines he then went on to work for Intel in Chandler, AZ for another 12 years.

Boydie was a sports enthusiast.  He played baseball, basketball, and ran track in field in high school and then went on to play in the minor league for the Houston Astros until that was cut short by a shoulder injury.  Boydie was always passionate about his sports.  He continued to play in basketball leagues over the years and eventually picked up the game of golf. He also coached basketball and little league for many years of his life. He always looked forward to Football Sundays when he could relax with his family and watch the games, the Raiders game especially!  Boydie also had a love for music.  He enjoyed playing the guitar and singing various country songs as well as Elvis songs.  He loved karaoke, he was the life of the party!

Boydie is survived by his wife Nora Mercado, his children Eric Mercado, Destiny Riley (Dion) and preceded in death by his daughter Tina Marie Mercado. He loved his grandchildren dearly: Angelina Villegas, Alyssa O’Neal, Marcus Mercado, Isaiah Joaquin, Keiyana Riley and Destiny Riley.

Memorial services will be held at Holy Cross Catholic Church (1244 S Power Rd, Mesa, AZ 85206) on Monday November 21, 2022.  Viewing will begin at 10:00am and mass will be held at 11:00am. Boydie will be laid to rest at Mountain View Cemetery.

I will forever miss you Boydie! You are constantly in my mind no matter how I keep myself busy. You pop into my mind and into an “Our Father” I go. You were always a great brother, a great Nephew. Gosh! 😢 I am missing you and always will. Love you to Heaven and Back. My ❤️ aches and I have many question for our God? Why? We prayed, we asked, heck! we even begged!!! It’s your special time to be blessed by the Lord and one day I will feel better about it, not yet though, but God helps us all to learn to accept his will. Love you❤️🌹❤️🎈🎈🕊
