Alfred “Al” Mendez born September 11, 1947 in Ray, AZ, passed away August 23, 2014 in Gilbert, AZ. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou, sons, Alfie Mendez, Paul Mendez and Mike Mendez; his grandchildren Daniel and Anthony Mendez; brother Rudy Mendez and sister Mary Lou Torres, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Al served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He graduated from Ray High School where he played football and baseball and was selected to the All Star and All State teams. He continued playing football while attending Eastern Arizona College. Al was always very active in sports and eventually retired from Red Mountain High School in Mesa after 14 years in the athletic department. Al was a kind and gentle soul with a big heart who always had a smile for everyone. He placed everyone’s needs above his own. He will be missed by his family and friends, but he will forever be in our hearts. Memorial Services will be held on August 30, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel, 7900 E. Main St, Mesa, AZ 85207.
