Alma Maxine Gray, age 84, of Mesa, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2011 in Anthem, Arizona. Alma was born in Alluwee, OK on June 15, 1926. She married James R. Gray in November, 1948 in Miami, OK. They were married for 56 years when he passed away in 2004. Pastor James Gray and Alma began their ministry at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in their home in 1954 in Kansas City, KS. They served at Oak Grove Baptist Church as the pastor for 33 years until retiring in 1987 and moving to Mesa, AZ. Alma loved her church friends, spending time with her family and reading. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Mesa. She is survived by her sister Helen Hartegan of Gardner, KS and her brother Harold Topping of Victoria, TX. She is also survived by her two children Pamela Moore and husband Cosslett Moore of Overland Park, KS, her son Nathan Gray and wife Carol Gray of Anthem, AZ. She leaves four grandchildren, Erin Stevens and her husband Chris, and Sean Moore of Overland Park, KS. Cole Gray of Charlotte, NC and Jeremy Gray of Anthem, AZ. Two great-grand children, Delaney and Wyatt, of Overland Park, KS. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 24th, from 5-8 pm at the Mountain View Funeral Home, 7900 E Main Street in Mesa, Arizona. The funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 25th at the Calvary Baptist Church, 3810 University, Mesa AZ with internment following at Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions in Alma’s name to the Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E Flower St., Phoenix, AZ, 85014.
So sorry to learn of Alma’s passing. I know she’s happy now with her Lord and with Jim and many of her friends. Wish we would have known at the time of her passing, but we are thinking of her family now. We are children of Bill and Dorothy Sims.
