January 18, 1937 – September 10, 2023


Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Arlene Marie Newell (86) passed away at her home in Gilbert, Arizona on September 10, 2023. Arlene was born on January 18, 1937 to Leo and Mary Desmarteau in Damar, Kansas. She met Robert Henry Newell in Damar Kansas. The couple was married in June of 1954 and remained in love until death. They began their life in Hill City, Kansas. Arlene spent some of her best years loving students and staff at the Hill City Grade School library. Arlene retired from Hill City Grade School and moved with Robert to Arizona to enjoy retirement. Arlene loved to quilt, go dancing, but most of all loved cooking for large crowds of family and friends. Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Robert Henry Newell and is survived by her six children Stan (Lori) Newell-Monticello IL, Cindy (Lance) Wise-Gilbert AZ, Joyce (Randy) Maley-Queen Creek AZ, Myra (John) Doxon-Gilbert AZ, Galen (Lori) Newell-Wichita KS, and Brenda (Tyler) Kobler-Wichita KS; grandchildren Kiley Owen, Casey Newell, Kelly Smith, Lindsey Dunton, Sally Chase, Ashley Holt, Adam Doxon, Kayla Nelson, Chris Newell, Nicole Mannion, Carlie Honas, Trey Kobler, and Brody Kobler; and 29 great grandchildren. Services at Mountain View Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 13 in Gilbert, AZ and a Catholic Mass to be held in Damar, KS at St Joseph Catholic Church at 11 am on Saturday, October 7th 2023 .
