Beatrice May Dole, 86, of Alden, went to meet our Lord on April 28, 2012, at Cherry Hill Haven II in Traverse City. Her daughter, Janet, was at her side when Beatrice took her last breath. Beatrice was born on May 10, 1925, to the late Henry and Eglentine (Gregory) Stables in Detroit. Beatrice entered into marriage with Russell Dole on June 14, 1942; he preceded her in death. She had two children, Janet May and Duaine; she also was a foster care mom to several children. Beatrice lacked a few credits for graduating from high school, so she went back to night school at Cass Tech in Detroit, taking typing, shorthand and English classes. She was employed by Ford Motor Co. Being new in the business world, her boss told her to find information about a certain procedure, he didn’t care how she did it, just to get the job done. She did, and went right to the top corporate executive to find the answer. That was kind of a no, no at the time, but her determination to do a job right was always her way. In 1985 she was still determined to finish high school. She took a government class at Bellaire High and needed a gym class to complete the task. As she wintered in Arizona the life guard at the pool documented all the hours she swam in the pool and recorded all the exercise necessary to complete her credits to graduate. Her proud moment came with family attending her graduation from Bellaire High School in 1986, and it just so happened her granddaughter, Janette Marie Stretlien, graduated the same year from TC Central. It is not often a grandmother and granddaughter share the same graduation day. Beatrice joined the Order of the Eastern Star on Dec. 19, 1949. She was Worthy Matron of Metropolitan Chapter in 1967, a Grand Rep to Nevada from 1968 to 1971 and Worthy Grand Matron for the State of Michigan in 1976. Beatrice was a lifetime member and had many honorary memberships. Christmas was a special time, and her homemade Hershey’s chocolate cocoa pies, with real whip cream on top were always in demand. Janet and Bea worked at GSUSA Camp Sakie in the summer of 1994; her camp name was “Aunt Bea.” They both joined the TC Cherry Chicks Red Hat Club where Queen Mom Penny Lautner named her “Lady Bea.” Beatrice looked forward to the Red Hat’s trips to Mackinaw Island for High Tea and dressed in all the Red Hat fashion. Beatrice is survived by her daughter, Janet (John) Stretlien, of Traverse City; her son, Duaine (Linda) Dole, of Deltona, Fla.; four grandchildren, Janette (Christopher) Cook, Christian Stretlien and fiancée, Julie LaPeer, Rebecca (Robert) Ditto and Carrie (James) Bohnwagner; two sisters, Phyllis Evans and Hilda Areeda; and many other loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family members and friends. Beatrice was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Vivian Olmstead; and her favorite foster daughter, Kathleen Mahlar. The family wishes to thank Cherry Hill Haven caregivers. They should all wear crowns of diamonds for their compassion and caring. They also wish to thank Hospice of Michigan for their professional concern and loving care. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grand Chapter O.E.S. of Michigan for the Masonic Youth Foundation, 13464 Preston Drive, Suite 250, Marshall, MI 49068; or Hospice of Michigan, 400 Mack Ave., Detroit, MI 48201. Visitation for friends and family will be held from 12 to 1 p.m., funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at Mountain View Funeral Home Chapel, 7900 E. Main St., Mesa, AZ.
