Betty Louise Sward passed away on September 20, 2013 in hospice care after enduring a nine month battle against lung cancer. She was born in Weston, MO on February 25, 1933, but grew up in Ogden, Utah. Betty was the daughter of Merrell and Avera Pauline Bullene. She is survived by her husband Robert Sward of Mesa, whom she married on March 1, 1968. Additionally surviving are two sisters, Paula (Bill) Christensen of Manga, Utah and Cindy (Jerry) Tobias of Ogden, Utah, as well as many nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and by her brother “Bud” of Seattle, Washington.

Betty was a one of a kind person who was rarely forgotten by the people she met, and she will be remembered by her many friends. Betty was a generous person who had a very strong, positive outlook and always saw the best in people. Betty enjoyed every day of her life in Arizona after moving to Mesa in 2003. She was an energetic and accomplished ballroom dancer who was very active in her pursuit of dancing. It was rare if Betty ever left the dance floor before the last tune was played.

Throughout her life, Betty was an excellent seamstress who created almost all of her lovely dance attire as well as her unique street wear.

Betty had a wonderful smile and her laughter made all of the social occasions that she attended more enjoyable.

Betty’s interment will be a private family matter.
