Beverly Coffin Obituary

Beverly Coffin of Mesa, Arizona, passed away on June 10, 2015, at the age of 94. Born on September 26, 1920, on a rural farm in Rutland, Iowa. Beverly was the second youngest and last surviving of the nine children of Peter and Helen (Bair) Cran. Beverly’s siblings were Kenneth (Ken), Clark, Keith, Kermit, Connie, Kathryn (Kate), Carol, and Peter (Burt). Beverly grew up and went to elementary, junior high and high school in Rutland. She married the love of her life, Dale Stephen Coffin, on October 10, 1942, at her parent’s home in Rutland. They were able to be together during a significant portion of Dale’s Navy years, being stationed together in Florida, Kansas, Minnesota, California, and Washington. During the war years, Beverly worked for Walgreen’s home office in Chicago and the government in Kansas. After the war, Beverly and Dale raised their family in Rutland and Humboldt, Iowa. She was a housewife and a secretary for the Dakota City Elementary School. In 1966, Dale and Beverly moved to Mesa, Arizona, where Beverly worked as an executive secretary at Motorola for a number of years. She and Dale were members of the First United Methodist Church. They shared over 70 years of marriage with a life-long love for each other, family, friends, dancing, cooking, playing cards, and travel (to all 50 states). Beverly is survived by her three children – Suzanne Nolting (Charles), Stephen (Barbara), and Scott (Suzanne), as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, 7900 East Main Street, Mesa, AZ, on Monday, June 22 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. A reception will follow at the Ballroom in Recreation Center One, Leisure World, 908 South Power Road, Mesa, AZ. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or Special Olympics Iowa.
