Bonita Irene Lopez was born April 8, 1943 in Alexandria, Minnesota; the first child of Edgar and Irene Sandeen. She spent most of her childhood in North Dakota; graduating from Mohall High School in 1961. After high school, she attended Minot State Teachers College, where she met Manuel Lopez. They married in Minot in 1964 and welcomed their first son, David Robert in 1966. While David was still an infant, they relocated to Northridge, California where their daughter Stephana Irene and their second son Edgar Eugene were born. In 1974, the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona where Bonnie blossomed as a mother, she served as Den mother to David’s Cub Scout troop and ferried her kids to lessons and other activities. When she divorced Manuel in 1986, she entered Mesa Community College and earned an Associate’s degree in library technology. She loved her job at Apache Junction Public Library and worked there until she retired in 2009. Bonnie loved cross-stitching, sewing, and genealogy. She traced her family back to the 1700’s. Bonnie began to have trouble with her memory, so she sold her house and moved in with her son David and his family. In 2021 she moved to a memory care facility in Pocatello, Idaho, where her daughter lives. She lived there until her death on March 29, 2023. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents and brothers John and Paul. She is survived by her children David (Paula), Stephana (John) and Edgar (Mardi), as well as brothers David (Linda) and Joel (Nancy) and five grandchildren: Rob, Elizabeth, Julia, Austin and Sarah. The family would like to thank The Gables Memory Care and Heritage Hospice for their loving care. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 7, 2023 at Mountain View Cemetery in Mesa, Arizona.
