Dan C. Sheets, 85, beloved father, grandfather, and great grandfather, passed away May 23, 2010. An Arizona native, he was born to the late Chris and Mollie Sheets in Glendale. Chris was the former Chief of Police of Glendale, and Mollie graduated from Tempe Normal Teacher’s College (now Arizona State University), and taught elementary school in Glendale. Dan graduated from Glendale Union High School in 1942 where he lettered in tennis, and was a 17 year old senior when Pearl Harbor was bombed. He completed one year at Phoenix College and joined the Army Air Force in June 1943. He became a pilot and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant, checking out in the B24, B25, and B26 bomber aircraft. After his discharge, he became a pilot for Trans Air Airline, flying out of Newark, New Jersey. Dan met Martha Armstrong of Globe, AZ in 1949 and they were married two weeks later. He was involved in the retail furniture business from 1947 through 1954. He sold his retail stores and became a manufacturer’s representative until 1979. Always active, he was a real estate agent until he retired. An avid ASU supporter, he has held Sun Devil season Tickets for the past 50 years, which have been enjoyed for three generations (soon to be four). Dan is survived by Martha, their five children Dan Sheets (aka Brandy) and his wife Sharon, Mark Sheets and his wife Chris, Dana McConnell and her husband Mike, Jody Strandquist, and Aaron Sheets. Dan also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, as well as his nephew Chris Canaday and niece Sally Denny. Phil, Bob, and Bill are waiting for you in heaven. We’ll see you soon.
