David Mark Lopatich, 78, of Gold Canyon, Arizona, peacefully left us on Thursday, December 10th at his home in the presence of family.

David was born in Cleveland Ohio on July 11, 1942. Upon graduation from high school, David worked for a year before attending Kent State University on a four-year baseball scholarship and was featured as the university’s star left-hand pitcher on the 1964 Mid-Atlantic Conference championship team. Dave studied and developed his passion for design and architecture and graduated with a degree in architecture from Kent State.

After graduation, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts and joined an architecture firm and began his passionate pursuit of excellence. He was the lead architect, mentor and architect of design vision. He went on to win numerous awards for his work and designs.

David loved nature and animals, especially dogs. He and Marilyn raised, showed and judged dobermans among other breeds, and greatly enjoyed traveling together with the many friends they made over decades in the dog showing community.

David married Marilyn in 1980 and became stepfather to Marilyn’s five children: Lisa, Cheryl, Gregg, Mark and Jessica.

He accepted the daunting challenge and responsibilities of helping to raise five children of various ages, from toddler to teen, with a heart full of love for all he shared with the kids along the way, and an even greater understanding and appreciation later for what he didn’t know while growing into his role in the family.

David is survived by his spouse Marilyn, 5 step-children, Lisa, Cheryl, Gregg, Mark and Jessica; grandchildren Jennifer, Derek, Lauren, Megan, Ryan, Julia, Grace and James; and his great grandchildren Sophia, Maya and Evie.

He will remain in our hearts forever.

A memorial Service is scheduled for Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 3:00pm. A Zoom link has been included below for those who wish to attend virtually.
