It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well-lived that we announce the passing of Dennis Russell, who departed this world on August 2, 2026. He passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by the family he cherished so deeply. Born on May 3, 1951, in Miles City, Montana, Dennis was a beacon of warmth and kindness, whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.
Dennis was the cherished son of Donald Russell and Roberta Flockhart, and he was predeceased by his loving parents and his brother, Ed. He is survived by his beloved wife, Wanda, with whom he shared a beautiful marriage of 38 years, having wed on June 17, 1988, in Billings, Montana. Their journey together continued in Missoula, Montana, where they nurtured a family rooted in love and laughter.
He was the proud father of four remarkable daughters: Rhiannon Koellermeier (Jess), Felina Almanza, Teresa Almanza, and Heidi McKay (Aaron). His legacy of love extends to his treasured grandchildren, Malachai Wasson and Charli Koellermeier, who brought immense joy to his life. He is also survived by his Aunt Bobbie Ann Flockhart and his nephew Robby Russell and his family.
Dennis attended Sacred Heart High School in Miles City and pursued further education at Community College in his hometown. His professional career was dedicated to the Communications Department of the Burlington Northern Railroad, where he was respected for his steadfast dedication and integrity.
Throughout his life, Dennis had a passion for gardening, which he lovingly tended until his retirement. Thereafter, he embraced the leisurely pursuit of golfing, splitting his time between the scenic landscapes of Montana and the sunny retreats of Arizona. Dennis was known for his quick wit and warm smile, qualities that endeared him to many. He had an unparalleled gift for making everyone feel welcome and valued, and his kindness and generosity touched countless lives.
The family expresses their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at MD Anderson Cancer Center and Hospice of the Valley for their compassionate care during Dennis’s final days.
Dennis Russell’s life was a testament to love, kindness, and the quiet strength that leaves an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to have known him. His spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, living on in the hearts of those he loved so dearly.
We will not have a service at this time. We will have a Celebration of Life at a later date.

I met Dennis not long before he retired. He made me feel welcome in his shop and I knew he had the trust and respect of those who worked with him. He was unselfish and doggedly fair. Traits that make a man a leader, professionally and personally.

Worked many years with Dennis on the Railroad. He was a good foreman and always took care of his guys, even tho some days were harder then others. As my mentor Clint Belyea would say a prince of a guy. He made the world a better place.
I had the pleasure of working Dennis he was one the kind person I know taught me so much . Had fun going to Griz game with him. He love life.
