Diane Mary Stone, 79, passed away peacefully on April 18th, 2026, surrounded by her family in Mesa, Arizona.
She was born in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, on February 17, 1947, to Karl and Mary Thiel. Later her family moved to Menomonee Falls, WI. After graduating from Menomonee Falls High, she joined the Air Force where she served as a Staff Sergeant at Eglin AFB, Florida. She was very proud of her service and often spoke fondly of her time there. After leaving the service she attended ASU, graduating with a degree in business. She worked as a district manager for Kellogg’s cereal in both California and Indiana, the latter being where she spent most of her adult life. She loved gardening, especially growing flowers, and sharing adventures with her many friends and family.
Diane was also a long-time member of the Sowers group at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church and a Master Gardener in Indiana.
She was the dear sister of Pat (Cathy) Thiel, the loving aunt of Rob (Katie) Thiel and Becky (Adam) Downer, and cherished great-aunt of Isabella, Aisling, Milo, Kayla and Blake. She is also survived by many dear friends in both Indiana and throughout the United States. Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Karl and Mary, and her younger sister, Judy.
The family extends its sincere gratitude to the compassionate care given by All Care Hospice (Scottsdale, AZ), Summerfield ALH at Jacinto (Mesa, AZ) and Las Palomas Senior Living (Mesa, AZ; especially Elizabeth, Sally and Diane).
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 29th, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church (100 W. 86th St., Indianapolis, IN). Private interment, with full military honors, will be held at Crown Hill National Cemetery, Indianapolis.
