Don Caris Rein

November 11, 1931 – July 4, 2022

Don Caris Rein, 90, of Gold Canyon, Arizona, passed away peacefully at 11:45 am on Monday, July 4, 2022, at his home surrounded by his loving family overlooking his beloved Superstition Mountains.

He was born on November 11, 1931, in Toledo, Ohio to Richard Arthur and Marie Mildred (Caris) Rein. Don grew up in Toledo and was the youngest of 3 children. He cherished his family and had so many wonderful childhood memories there. He served in the US Army from 1952 to 1956. Don obtained his BA in Industrial Management at the University of Toledo, Ohio, and later his MBA at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Don worked as an industrial engineer and later as operations manager for Owens-Illinois, Libby Glass Division from 1957 until 1977. He worked in Libby Glass plants in both City of Industry, California and in Toledo Ohio. He then worked as vice president of operations for Scholz Homes, Inc. in Toledo. In 1982 he was operations manager at Innowave Technology in Morgan Hill California until his retirement.

Don married Sally Kay Hull in 1954 and had 3 children, Greg, Kay and Cindy. In 1972 he married Faith Johnson Mackey. In 2000 they retired in Gold Canyon, Arizona where they golfed, gardened, traveled and were regular vendors at local art and craft shows.

Don is survived by his 3 children, Greg (Youna) Rein of Huntington Beach, CA, Kay (Brian ) Hopkins of New Castle, Colorado, Cindy(Earl) Rossmiller of Rancho Cucamonga, CA and his 5 stepchildren:  Linda (John) Fitch of  Mesa, Arizona, David (Cheryl) Mackey of Ballston Lake New York, Fritz (Nancy) Mackey of Boynton Beach, Florida, Paul (Stephanie) Mackey of Franklin, Ohio, Diane (Yale) Roseborough-Goldberg of Phoenix, AZ, 12 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard (Dick) Rein; and his sister, Wanda (Jean) Stanbaugh.

Don was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved meeting new people and visiting with friends and family. He loved a good game of slot poker and looked forward to the “boys trips” to Las Vegas with his brother, nephews and son. He had a great sense of humor and always had a “guess what?” joke!  He loved to play golf and did so for years with Faith and his cousin Jimmy and Peggy. He was crazy about animals but mostly his “cats” which all stole his heart! Don and Faith loved to travel and always made time for family trips to see his 8 kids and grandchildren all over the country. He was an avid gardener, just like his Mom. Tomatoes were his specialty, and he was the “King” of spaghetti sauce! His blue eyes and kind and quiet demeanor were beautiful. We miss you, and will always love you!!

There will be a graveside service on July 26^th, 2022 at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, Cave Creek, AZ at 09:00 am.
