Forever In the Hearts They Leave Behind

Donald Olaf Borg

December 7, 1940 – April 13, 2023

Donald Olaf Borg, 82, left his earthly home, in Mesa, Arizona, to be with his Heavenly Father on April 13, 2023.

Donald was born in Tintah, Minnesota, to Mary (Lehman) and Ole Borg on December 7, 1940.  He spent many of his formative years in Willow Lake, South Dakota on his eldest brother Harry’s farm.  Additionally, he resided in Georgia and New Jersey, where he met his wife of nearly 50 years, Andrea.  They spent several years in South Dakota and Nebraska before settling and becoming a pillar in Concho Valley, Arizona community for over 30 years.  They then moved to Mesa, Arizona several years ago to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Donald was a man of many talents and interests, but it was his deep love for hunting elk, shooting sports, and the outdoors, that brought him the most joy.  He had a strong desire to pass on his love and knowledge for hunting and shooting sports to the next generation. He spent countless hours volunteering for several organizations, including the Arizona Game and Fish Department, Apache County 4-H Shooting Sports, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Arizona Elk Society, Northeastern Arizona Sportsman’s Association, National Rifle Association, Knights of Columbus, and the Lions Club.  In addition, he volunteered for the Hunt of a Lifetime and Catch a Dream organizations where he helped realize the dreams of terminally ill children by taking them hunting.  His commitment to these causes was unwavering, and his generosity touched the lives of countless individuals.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Andrea, his parents, Ole and Mary, as well as his brothers Harry, Jim, and David and sister MaryAnn. He is survived by his daughter Lynn Sue Olson (Rick) of Minneapolis, MN, daughter Cathleen Alfano (Jimmy) of Pompton Lakes, NJ, son Shane Borg (Lindsay) of Gilbert, AZ, daughter Heather Morrell (Chris) of Peoria, AZ, and grandchildren Sarah, James, George, Robert, Ryan, Ian, and Evan. He is also survived by his brothers Steven (Geri) Borg and Michael (Betty) Borg, sister Julie (Ron) Abel, sister-in-law Ingrid (David) Borg, brother-in-law Richard (MaryAnn) Powers, and numerous nieces, nephews, Godchildren, and dear friends.

Those who knew and loved Donald most, understood he could be a challenging man at times. Yet, he left an indelible mark on those he encountered. Donald’s life was defined by his love for hunting, the outdoors and his dedication to others. Though he may be gone, his legacy will continue to live on.

A memorial service to celebrate Donald’s life will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 10:00 am.  He then will be interred at 11:00 am, with his wife Andrea, on what would be their 50th wedding anniversary.  Services will be held at the Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery at 7900 East Main Street, Mesa, AZ 85207.

Don and I spent many years doing sports in tintah. Don got me started Elk hunting in Arizona. Later years were spent fishing at the campground at big Cormorant lake in MN.
I will miss our long phone conversations this past few years.
I will miss him dearly.. we had lots of adventures in our time together.
    My sympathy to the family.

Thank you so much, dear Heather, for posting this on our Daughter’s timeliness. When Susan told me I was heartbroken, but not surprised. Your Dad told me weeks ago that he was ready & waiting. We loved Don & Andy so much & shared good times with them as next door neighbors in Brighton Arms Apartments, Neptune City, NJ. Thank you again…
