Dorothy (Dottie) Fern Brodman, (86), was born March 11th, 1935 near Yates Center, KS, and peacefully passed away and entered into eternal life on Sunday, October 10th, 2021.

Dorothy’s parents were Walter Pearl Smith and Valarie Mae (McConnell), Smith. She graduated from Yates Center High School in 1952.

Dorothy married Melvin L. Brodman on March 15th, 1953, (66 yrs).  Her children are Randall K. Brodman (Mesa, AZ), Douglas J. Brodman (Mesa, AZ), Scott A. Brodman (Phoenix, AZ), and Carol B. Brodman (Chandler, AZ).

After high school Dorothy was employed by Kay Jewelers and as a civilian administrator for the U.S. Air Force in Wichita, KS until 1955 when Dorothy & Mel started their family. For twenty years the family moved around to multiple destinations in the Air Force and Dorothy was actively involved with all the children’s schools, activities, and a supportive Mother and Homemaker.

After retirement from the Air Force, the family moved to Tempe, AZ in January 1972 where they resided until 1994.  Dorothy and Melvin moved to Sunland Village East, a retirement community in east Mesa, AZ.  Dorothy enjoyed time with her family, neighbors and serving the chapel and was an avid reader and AZ sports fan. Dorothy and Melvin enjoyed several cross country road trip vacations, sightseeing many states, national parks, monuments, and visiting numerous family and friends along the way.

Surviving Dorothy are children Randall (Catherine) Brodman, Douglas Brodman, Scott (Debbie) Brodman, and Carol Brodman; grandchildren Christopher Brodman, Michelle (James) Davis, Nicholas (Amanda) Brodman, Elizabeth Brodman, Heather (Jonathan) Ward, Valerie Wilson, Katlin Wilson, Cassandra Wilson, Ashly Hale, and Tricia Morris; great-grandchildren Alexis Brodman, Lauren Davis, Weston Davis, Colin Davis, Henry Ward, August Wilson, Geovanni Morris, and Sylus Carpenter; brother in law Calvin Brodman of Yates Center, KS, brother in-law Henry Halfmann of Richfield, MN, sister-in-law Shirley Brodman of Brighton, MI, and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding Dorothy in death, husband Melvin L. Brodman, (April 12th, 2019), parents Walter and Valarie Smith, sisters Donna Halfmann, Mary (Zilliox) Moore, daughter Karen Renee Brodman, and grandchildren Travis Jay Brodman and James A. Wilson.

Dorothy, wife, mother, grand-mother and great grand-mother will live in our hearts forever and be sincerely missed and she was cherished by all who knew her. Her memorial service will be held on November 19th, 2021 at 2pm, Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, 7900 E. Main St., Mesa, AZ 85207.

The family requests that all donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse or The Salvation Army.
