On September 5, 2010, Dorothy “Jackie” Jacqueline Johnson of Mesa, 63, suddenly and unexpectedly left her home here to join her many loved ones, already waiting for her in Heaven. Jackie was born to Dorothy & George Powell in Mesa, AZ on October 31, 1946, where she grew up and remained most of her life, moving to Bakersfield, CA with her family in 1977. Jackie resettled permanently with her family in AZ in 1991. Jackie spent most of her years as a homemaker, lovingly caring for her 3 children. Though her oldest son, Bobby, had Cerebral Palsy, Jackie spent 35 years providing him and her other children with the utmost love and care. In 1996, Jackie proudly opened DJ’s Thrift & Gift Store in Mesa, with her mother. The two ran the shop for nearly 6 years before retiring. After retiring with her husband, they enjoyed traveling, vacationing, and gambling in Palm Springs and Laughlin. Jackie collected coins, enjoyed playing games, and spending time with her grandchildren for entertainment. Jackie is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jack, and sister Georgette, all of Mesa, husband, Robert “B.J.” Johnson Sr. of Mesa, sons, Robert “Bobby” Jr. of Mesa, and Thomas “Danny” Daniel of Portland, OR., among many other loved family and friends. Jackie is survived by her 3 loving sisters, Karen Bishop, Patricia Harris, and Sandy Bishop, all of Mesa. Also, brother, Kevin Powell of NV, as well as brother in law, Frank Johnson Sr. and wife, Julie, of Palm Desert, CA. Jackie also leaves behind daughter, Karen Johnson and spouse, David Richert, of Mesa. Most importantly left behind are Jackie’s 5 beautiful grandchildren, Lucas Daniel and Gavin Isaac Scott of Mesa, as well as, Kaitlyn Grace, Ashlyn Faith, and Ethan Daniel of Bend, OR. These are just some of the closest of the many important people Jackie touched, whom are feeling her loss so strongly. Jackie leaves behind a huge, loving family and many loyal friends, with special thanks to Rosemary Lopez, her wonderful, dedicated caregiver of more than 2 years. Services will be held at Mountain View Memorial Gardens at 7600 E. Main St. in Mesa. Viewing is from 5-8pm, Friday, Sept. 10, followed by the funeral on Sat. Sept. 11 at 10am inside the chapel, followed by a graveside service. A potluck reception will immediately follow at the Johnson Family Home in Mesa. All friends and family of the Johnson’s are encouraged to attend. Our thanks are extended to Pastor Tommy Foster and Director Clint Fontaine of Mountain View Memorial Gardens, for your many years of dedication and concern for our family through our many unfortunate losses.
