Elvin B. (Al) Chapman, 90, passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Hospice of the Valley, Mesa, AZ. He was born May 19, 1923 in Pueblo, CO.
Al Chapman was a World War II Veteran, a father, grandfather and great-grandfather; he was a husband to two wonderful women and is now reunited with his dear Lolo!
Al grew up in Huntington Park, CA. He graduated from Huntington Park HS upon returning from service in the US Army service in the European theater during WWII.
Al married Lois Gregory in 1946 in Quartzide, NV. They were happily married for 49 years. AL married Geraldine Louise Porter in 1997 in Apache Junction, AZ. They were happily married for 16 years.
Al was a member of Community Christian Church in Apache Junction, a 42 year member of the A.F & A.M. Ionic Lodge #82 in Cascade, ID, a 32-degree member of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry S.J and the El Korah Shrine Temple of Boise ID.
Al was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Bertha Chapman; his sister Marva (Chapman) Thomas; his brother Edward Jr., his first wife Lois (Gregory) Chapman and his stepson Richard Porter.
Al is survived by his spouse Geraldine of Apache Junction, AZ; his son Stephen C. Chapman and wife Marylou of Huntsville, AL; daughter Sylvia Jean Blake and husband James Arnold Blake of Nampa, ID; stepson Bill Porter, his wife Marjorie, their children and grandchildren; stepdaughter Sherry (Porter) Seward, her husband John, their children and grandchildren; his grandchildren Stacey Cathleen (Chapman) Tobin and husband James of Chicago, IL, Stephen Cristopher Chapman and wife Meredith of Ridgewood, NJ, Jennifer Amme (Blake) Collins and husband Chad and Benjamin Floyd Blake and wife Heather of Nampa, ID; his great-grandchildren Colin Tobin, Hannah Tobin, Porter Collins and Ethan Chapman; and his loving step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
So now we say goodbye to our hero. Rest in peace Papa Al, you know how much we loved you! He is one of just a few people in our lives that we truly looked up to and respected with all our hearts. He was an ever faithful husband and father and a wonderful provider for his family. He made a huge impact on our lives and gave us confidence to be who we are today! We owe so much to him. Our tears are of joy for his heavenly happiness and of selfish sadness because we will miss him on earth! See you on the other side.
Services were held at Mountain View Funeral Home, 7900 E. Main Street, Mesa, AZ at 12:00 noon on August 9, 2013.
